Brugada Delivers World Cup Accountability Report: 44 Billion Pesos in Economic Impact, 100,000+ Jobs
Jefa de Gobierno Clara Brugada presented a formal accountability report on Mexico City's hosting of the FIFA World Cup 2026, declaring the capital 'the other champion of the World Cup.' The government reported over MXN 44 billion in economic activity generated during the tournament, more than 100,000 formal jobs created, and roughly 12 million people participating in tournament-linked activities including the Zócalo FIFA Fan Fest and district-level football festivals. Brugada credited the event with accelerating over 2,000 urban works, including 500 reconstructed sports facilities, Metro line modernization, new bike paths, and water/drainage improvements, and thanked more than 40,000 public servants — including Secretary of Government César Cravioto and Public Safety Secretary Pablo Vázquez Camacho — for World Cup operations.
