CDMX Deploys Equipment to 56 Flood-Risk Points as Official Rainy Season Begins
As Mexico City's official rainy season began on May 15, the Secretaría del Agua (SACMEX) announced deployment of specialized drainage and pumping equipment to 56 identified high-risk flooding zones across the 16 alcaldías. Jefa de Gobierno Clara Brugada presented the preventive infrastructure campaign, noting that climate models project above-average precipitation for CDMX in the 2026 season. The 56 strategic points — identified through historical flood mapping and real-time subsidence data — received portable pumps, drainage canal cleanouts, and stormwater retention improvements. The Cutzamala water system remains at approximately 77% capacity as of April 2026, well above the record low of 28% recorded in May 2024, providing a supply buffer entering the wet season. SACMEX also activated 24-hour emergency monitoring via its C5-integrated flood warning system.
