CNTE Mega-March on Teachers' Day: 'Nothing to Celebrate' Slogan at Zócalo
The Coordinadora Nacional de Trabajadores de la Educación (CNTE) organized a major Teachers' Day demonstration on May 15, marching under the defiant slogan 'Este 15 de mayo no hay nada que celebrar' (This May 15 there is nothing to celebrate). Thousands of teachers gathered at the former Escuela Normal Superior building near Metro San Cosme (Line 2) at 09:00 and marched to the Zócalo, demanding repeal of recent education labor reforms, direct salary increases, and reinstatement of dismissed colleagues. The march blocked major arteries including Eje 1 Norte and Bucareli in the Cuauhtémoc alcaldía. Concurrent marches by the Committees for the Defense of the New Mexican School and the Inter-University Popular Assembly for Palestine were also held on the same date, adding to the day's broad civic mobilization.
