First Nations Wildfire Evacuations Fall to 178 Individuals as Season Winds Down
Indigenous Services Canada's wildfire evacuation dashboard shows just 17 First Nations communities impacted by wildland fire as of Sept 14 (16 in British Columbia, one each in Saskatchewan and Ontario), with 5 communities under active evacuation and 178 individuals currently displaced. That is down sharply from the 4,294 evacuees across 25 First Nations communities reported in the Aug 18 federal update, reflecting the broad de-escalation of fire activity nationally as fall conditions take hold. Since April 1, 87 wildland fires have impacted 83 EMAP-eligible First Nations, with a cumulative 8,805 evacuated over the course of the season.
