B.C. Down to Three 'Wildfires of Note' as Lightning-Sparked Surge Recedes
British Columbia's list of 'wildfires of note' shrank to three — Ainslie Creek, Pear Lake and Bald Range — after the Brunswick Creek blaze west of the Fraser Canyon was removed following a reduced spread threat and downgraded evacuation orders. Provincewide active wildfires fell to roughly 160, down from a peak above 180 after a weekend storm produced about 11,000 lightning strikes across the province. Rain over the same weekend helped crews gain ground on several fronts even as officials warned of a warming, drying trend into the following week.
