COB and FENCOMIN Reject Extension, Each Announce a National Assembly

Hours before the Legislative Assembly's vote, COB executive secretary Mario Argollo reappeared publicly to reject the 90-day extension of the state of exception, arguing "no existe justificativo legal para prolongar el Estado de Excepción" since the country had been calm for three months, and blaming the government for pinning the fuel crisis on "los 53 días que ha estado movilizado el país." Argollo said the COB would convene a national assembly (ampliado nacional) to evaluate progress from the joint working committees set up with the Executive after the May–June blockades, without setting a date, and warned that extending the measure would be politically "negativo" for President Paz. The mining-cooperative federation FENCOMIN separately rejected the extension the same day, with president Josué Caricari calling it a "mordaza" (gag) and "persecución," and likewise announced its own national assembly without fixing a date.
