Deputies' Justice Commission Unanimously Backs 3-Month State-of-Exception Extension
The Plural Justice Commission of the Chamber of Deputies unanimously approved (of members present) a chamber resolution to extend the state of exception, due to expire Sept. 18, by 90 more days. Deputy Manolo Rojas said there is "a latent risk against democracy" and "a group waiting for the 18th of September to convulse the country again." The resolution directs Chamber President Roberto Castro to ask Vice President Lara to convene the full Plurinational Legislative Assembly to consider it; the extension still requires floor votes in both the Chamber of Deputies and the Assembly, and opposition legislators have signaled likely rejection, arguing the government failed to resolve the underlying crisis during the initial 90 days.
