PowerCo Delays St. Thomas, Ontario Gigafactory to 2029, Names EllisDon Contractor

Volkswagen battery subsidiary PowerCo Canada pushed the operational start of its $7 billion St. Thomas, Ontario cell plant back two years to 2029, from an original 2027 target, and named EllisDon Corporation as general contractor for the production-building shell, mechanical/electrical/plumbing work, and site utility systems. PowerCo said the delay gives the plant room to accommodate next-generation battery technology and scale production as EV demand shifts; roughly 60 EllisDon workers are on site now, rising to about 1,300 at peak.
