UN High Commissioner Türk Hears Ayotzinapa Testimony During Mexico Visit

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk visited Mexico for four days. On April 20–21, families of the 43 — including Cristina Bautista, mother of Benjamín Ascencio — testified before Türk, stating: 'After 11 years, we have not achieved the truth.' Families requested that Türk back referral of Mexico's disappearances crisis to the UN Committee on Enforced Disappearances. Türk stated he would 'continue accompanying the victims.' Forced disappearances, including Ayotzinapa, were the most discussed topic in all his meetings with Mexican authorities.
