NASA Completes LEMS Seismometer Payload for Artemis Astronaut Deployment at Lunar South Pole
NASA declared "wrenches down" on the Lunar Environment Monitoring Station (LEMS), the first fully completed science payload designed for Artemis astronauts to deploy on the Moon's surface. Built at NASA Goddard, the 11-pound instrument suite carries two seismometers for autonomous long-term monitoring of moonquakes and meteorite impacts near the lunar South Pole, and will await assignment to a specific Artemis surface mission in a Goddard clean room.
