Report: Rocha Moya's Defense Opens Talks With U.S. on Possible Surrender

| AMLO (2018–2024)

Journalist Jesús Lemus Barajas reported that a lawyer for on-leave Sinaloa governor Rubén Rocha Moya initiated contact with the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York to explore terms under which Rocha Moya could surrender and potentially cooperate as a protected witness in the broader Sinaloa Cartel case. Neither U.S. authorities, Rocha Moya's defense team, nor Rocha Moya himself officially confirmed the report. The development came as Mexico's FGR maintained it lacks sufficient evidence to act domestically, leaving the case in limbo nearly three months after the U.S. indictment became public and fueling opposition claims of selective justice toward Morena-aligned officials.
