Pakistan's Deportation Deadline Expires — Mass Arrest Order for Undocumented Afghans

Pakistan's Interior Ministry deadline for all undocumented Afghan nationals to leave the country expired on July 10, 2026. Pakistan ordered the immediate arrest of any Afghan national without a valid visa, with provincial authorities required from July 11 to file daily reports on identified Afghans and enforcement actions taken. Dawn and RFE/RL reported more than 10,000 Afghans per day crossing back into Afghanistan since the deadline expired, with fear of arrest blurring the line between 'voluntary' and forced return. Pakistan has deported or returned more than 2.5 million Afghans since October 2023.
