UN: 115,000 Afghans Displaced, 289 Civilians Killed Since Feb 26
As the Eid ceasefire took effect, the UN released updated figures on the humanitarian toll of the Afghanistan–Pakistan conflict: approximately 115,000 Afghans had been displaced since hostilities intensified on February 26, and at least 289 civilians had been killed in Afghanistan. The UN refugee agency warned of rapidly worsening conditions in eastern and southeastern provinces. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the intensifying conflict was 'placing additional strain on health systems' and noted that at least six health facilities in Afghanistan had been affected by the violence since late February. The ongoing conflict in the Middle East was also disrupting Afghanistan's trade routes through Iran, adding further economic pressure.
