Warsaw Uprising — Polish Home Army Rises Against Nazis

| World War II

The Polish Home Army (Armia Krajowa) launched a major uprising against German occupation in Warsaw, expecting Soviet forces approaching from the east to assist. Stalin halted Soviet advances, denying air access to Western Allied supply missions for weeks. Germany crushed the uprising after 63 days; Warsaw was systematically destroyed and 200,000 civilians killed.
