Germany and Italy Declare War on the United States
Four days after Pearl Harbor, Hitler declared war on the United States, honoring his Axis pact with Japan and relieving Roosevelt of a political dilemma about entering the European war. This decision transformed the conflict into a truly global war and ultimately sealed Germany's fate by bringing America's industrial and military power to bear against it.
