Dutch Federation Says Infantino Must Go by 2027, Proposes Amsterdam Summit on FIFA's Future

The Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB), one of FIFA's seven founding members from 1904, issued a statement Sunday saying it no longer has confidence in Gianni Infantino and that FIFA needs new leadership from 2027 onward — going further than most federations by also demanding structural reform of the presidency itself, not just a new occupant. The KNVB said power should shift from the president toward FIFA's secretary-general, with stronger checks and balances and major decisions routed through the Congress under Council supervision; it also called for up to 90% of FIFA's distributable revenue to be reinvested in football development and for human rights and sustainability to be built into FIFA decision-making. 'A new president alone is not enough,' the federation said, adding 'FIFA should not depend on one individual' and that its proposed reform push 'should not be a European plan for the rest of the world.' The KNVB proposed hosting an international summit in Amsterdam and invited federations and confederations globally to help shape a reform roadmap ahead of the March 18, 2027 FIFA Congress in Rabat. The Netherlands joins Gibraltar (Aug 24), Ireland's FAI (Aug 25), and Italy's FIGC (Aug 26) among federations to break with Infantino in the space of a week, as the dispute over his abandoned World Cup stake-sale plan continues to widen alongside UEFA's prepared Swiss criminal complaint against him.
