Six Nordic Football Associations Declare They've 'Lost Confidence' in Infantino

Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, and the Faroe Islands issued a rare joint statement Sunday saying they have 'lost confidence' in FIFA president Gianni Infantino's leadership and back calls from UEFA, the AFC, and CONCACAF for his resignation. 'We view the organization's governance and decision-making at the highest level with great concern,' the six associations said, demanding FIFA 'provide binding guarantees that the organisation's competitions will never again be opened to private ownership.' The statement also backed 'a fully independent external investigation into the events surrounding the FIFA Forward Enterprise proposal' — Infantino's abandoned plan to sell a 20% stake in a new World Cup commercial entity — and called for a comprehensive governance review to restore the independence, checks and balances, transparency, and accountability principles from FIFA's 2016 reform program. The Nordic bloc's statement came a day after Infantino defied a CONCACAF request and attended a Caribbean Football Union event, and widens the federation revolt to at least a dozen national associations ahead of the March 18, 2027 presidential election.
