Football Supporters Europe & Euroconsumers File EU Commission Complaint Against FIFA Over Ticket Pricing

| World Cup 2026

Two major European football supporter and consumer rights organizations — Football Supporters Europe (FSE) and Euroconsumers — filed a formal complaint with the European Commission on April 3 alleging FIFA abused its dominant market position to impose excessive and exploitative ticket prices for the 2026 World Cup. The complaint comes as Final ticket face values reach $10,990 (up from $8,680 in prior phases), with secondary prices hitting $143,750 on FIFA's own official resale platform — 41 times face value. The organizations argued that FIFA's 500-million-application demand demonstrates market dominance being exploited in violation of EU competition law. FSE had previously described prices as 'up to seven times higher than Qatar 2022.' The complaint follows a formal letter from US Congress members calling the tournament 'the most financially exclusionary ever,' and comes one day after the April 2 ticket website glitch that left thousands of fans stranded in the wrong queue for 90+ minutes. FIFA has not publicly responded to the EU complaint.
