Greer: Canada Talks Hinge on 'Difficult' Issues as 50% Auto Tariff Looms Jan. 1
USTR Jamieson Greer said US-Canada talks involve 'a handful of outstanding issues that are quite difficult to resolve.' A 50% US tariff on Canadian-made vehicles and parts is scheduled for Jan. 1, 2027, doubling the current 25% auto tariff. The reporting also notes 50% tariffs already cover $27.6 billion of Canadian goods and economists estimate roughly 87,000 Canadian job losses (36,100 in Ontario).
