US Import Ban on ~$1bn of Canadian Goods Takes Effect

A US ban on nearly $1 billion of Canadian imports, including alcoholic beverages, dairy products and motorcycles, took effect early Sept 29. It is framed as retaliation for Canada's counter-tariffs on $20 billion of US goods. Wayne State's Gary Shields called the impact minor next to hundreds of billions in annual two-way trade, though analysts expect weaker Canadian growth in late 2026 and early 2027.
