Carney Announces Dollar-for-Dollar Retaliation Effective Sept 8
Speaking in Ottawa, PM Carney announced Canada will match the new US tariffs 'dollar for dollar' with retaliatory measures on roughly $20 billion of American goods, targeting steel, dairy, appliances, agricultural equipment, pulp and paper, and electronics. The measures take effect 'the Tuesday after Labor Day' — September 8, 2026 — with a detailed list to follow in the coming days. Carney said 'America has changed' and the two countries would 'not return to our old relationship.'
