Carney Moves to Unwind Retaliation Ahead of Deal Signing
As part of the deal package, PM Carney asked provincial premiers to restock American alcohol and drop 'Buy Canadian' procurement exclusions targeting US firms — the clearest sign yet that Ottawa intends to unwind its remaining retaliatory measures once a final agreement is signed. Ontario and British Columbia held out for firmer tariff commitments before complying; liquor bans remained lifted only in Saskatchewan and Alberta as of Aug 21.
