USTR Greer: US Will Not Extend USMCA
At the mandatory six-year joint review under Article 34.7, USTR Jamieson Greer announced the United States would not confirm intent to extend USMCA for a further 16-year term, citing 'shortcomings' in the deal and persistent trade deficits with Canada and Mexico. Canada and Mexico both backed extension. The decision triggers annual reviews under Article 34.7.4 until the agreement's scheduled July 1, 2036 expiry; existing tariff preferences, rules of origin, investment protections and dispute settlement remain operative in the meantime.
