Honduras Coup: Zelaya Ousted in Pajamas
Honduran President Manuel Zelaya was seized by the military at gunpoint on June 28, 2009, and flown to Costa Rica in his pajamas. The coup followed Zelaya's plans for a non-binding poll on convening a constitutional assembly—opposed by the business community and military. The Obama administration initially called it a coup, but later Secretary Clinton worked to facilitate elections that legitimized the new government rather than restoring Zelaya. US military aid to Honduras continued throughout.
