CDC's Oct 9 update (data through Oct 8) reports 4,080 confirmed 2026 cases across 47 jurisdictions, up 193 (5.0%) in a week, 78% above the 2,289 cases in all of 2025. 42 new outbreaks have been reported; 96% of cases are outbreak-associated and 414 (10%) were hospitalized.
