Watchdog Flags Quiet FDA Expansion of Recalled-Lettuce Distribution to 40 Jurisdictions
Food-safety attorney Bill Marler highlights that FDA's Taylor Farms recall notice was quietly revised on August 13 to add nine more states and territories — California, Washington, D.C., Delaware, North Dakota, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Vermont, and Washington state — to the previously reported 31-state distribution footprint, bringing the total to 40 jurisdictions that may have received the recalled iceberg lettuce. Marler notes the change went largely unpublicized: as of his August 23 post, none of the nine newly listed jurisdictions had issued their own public notice to residents.
