First Illinois Lawsuit Filed Against Taylor Farms Over Cyclospora-Tainted Lettuce
Alonso Zaragoza and his wife Jadhira Sanchez sue Taylor Fresh Foods, Inc. and Taylor Farms California, Inc. in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois (case 1:26-cv-10148), the first cyclosporiasis lawsuit of the outbreak filed in Illinois. Zaragoza developed bloody diarrhea after eating a Taco Bell chalupa supreme containing fresh shredded iceberg lettuce ordered July 11; it took 23 days and three separate testing attempts before doctors confirmed Cyclospora on August 4. The ten-count complaint — alleging strict product liability, breach of warranty, negligence, and loss of consortium — names only the two Taylor entities, not any Taco Bell franchisee or corporate entity.
