US Announces New 25% Tariff on Brazilian Imports Over 'Unfair Trade Practices'
USTR Jamieson Greer announced a 25% Section 301 tariff on most Brazilian imports following a year-long investigation into Brazilian digital trade rules, ethanol market access, and deforestation policy, effective July 22. Coffee, beef, avocados, Brazil nuts, petroleum oils, and aircraft parts are exempted. Brazilian President Lula da Silva called the tariffs 'illegal and arbitrarily imposed' and vowed countermeasures under Brazil's Reciprocity Law plus a WTO challenge.
