First Trump Impeachment — Abuse of Power, Ukraine Quid Pro Quo; Senate Acquits

| United States

The House of Representatives impeached Trump 230-197 on December 18, 2019 on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress — the third presidential impeachment in US history. The charges stemmed from a July 25, 2019 phone call in which Trump allegedly conditioned congressionally approved military aid to Ukraine on a political investigation into Joe Biden. The Senate acquitted Trump along nearly party-line votes on February 5, 2020.
