UK Local Elections and Scottish Parliament General Election Held

| UK History

Voters across England, Scotland and Wales went to the polls on 7 May 2026 in a combined set of local government elections and the Scottish Parliament general election. The contests served as the first major electoral test for Keir Starmer's Labour government since the 2024 general election landslide. Polling throughout the campaign period had suggested substantial gains for Reform UK in English councils and a fifth consecutive SNP term in Scotland. Counting began overnight with most results expected by 8 May.
