Trump Holds Hour-Long 'Frank' Call With Putin as Strikes Resume on Kyiv
President Trump held an hour-long phone call with Vladimir Putin on September 8, the Kremlin said, following the weekend visits by US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Moscow and Kyiv. Kremlin foreign policy aide Yuri Ushakov described the call as 'constructive and quite candid,' saying Trump pressed for an early end to the war to open the way for 'impressive' US-Russia trade prospects, while Putin outlined his vision for the peace process, gave his assessment of the war, and assured Trump that Russia has 'no aggressive plans toward Europe.' The call came the same day Russia resumed mass strikes on Kyiv after the reciprocal 72-hour pause tied to the envoys' visit expired. Trump was expected to speak with Zelensky next.
