Russian Missile Barrage Kills 9 in Kyiv as Zelensky Says Ukraine Has Run Out of Patriot Interceptors
Russia struck Kyiv overnight with 27 ballistic missiles, only one of which was intercepted, killing 9 people and wounding 33 — 2 dead and 8 injured (including 2 children) in Solomianskyi district, 7 dead and 14 injured in Darnytskyi district. President Zelensky said the low interception rate was 'simply because there are no interceptors for the Patriot system,' warning that 'every night without them results in more casualties,' and said Ukraine was negotiating with the United States for a domestic manufacturing license for Patriot interceptors. The strike came as Trump's shortened 10-to-12-day deadline for Russia to reach a ceasefire, set on July 28, continued to run down toward its Aug. 7–9 expiration.
