EU Opens Sixth Accession Negotiating Cluster With Ukraine

The EU formally opened Cluster 6 (External Relations, including Chapters 30 and 31 on foreign, security, and defence policy) in Ukraine's accession negotiations at an intergovernmental conference in Brussels, alongside Moldova. The milestone followed new Hungarian PM Péter Magyar's government dropping the two-year veto over the process previously held by Viktor Orbán. Cluster 1 (Fundamentals) had opened in June 2026.
