Russian MLRS Strike Kills Father at Kherson Children's Playground, Critically Wounds Wife and Two Daughters (Ages 3 and 6)
On May 27–28, 2026, Russian forces struck a children's playground in Kherson city's Korabelny district using multiple-launch rocket systems (MLRS/artillery) from Russian-controlled positions on the east (left) bank of the Dnipro River. A father in his 30s was killed. His wife (36) and two young daughters — aged 3 and 6 — were seriously wounded: the 3-year-old was in critical condition and was evacuated to Mykolaiv for emergency surgery to remove shrapnel from her head; the 6-year-old sustained shrapnel wounds to the back and required surgery. A 50-year-old man in the vicinity was also wounded. The attack on a civilian playground constitutes a potential war crime under International Humanitarian Law. Kherson city has been under near-daily Russian artillery, rocket, and drone attack since its liberation in November 2022, when Russian forces withdrew to the left bank and began shelling the city systematically.
