Russia Strikes Mykolaiv with 122 Shahed Drones and 2 Iskander-M Missiles — Administrative and Residential Buildings Damaged
Overnight into May 26, 2026, Russia launched 2 Iskander-M ballistic missiles and 122 Shahed/Geran-type loitering munitions toward Ukrainian territory. Mykolaiv in southern Ukraine was struck by drones, damaging one administrative building and two high-rise residential buildings. Ukrainian air defense intercepted the majority of the Shahed drones, but several penetrated defenses. Ukrainian intelligence warned of a planned large-scale combined missile and drone attack in the coming days. The attack continues Russia's pattern of overnight Shahed campaigns that have averaged 100–300 drones per night throughout May 2026. The preceding May 24 mass attack on Kyiv (600 drones + 90 missiles + Oreshnik hypersonic missile on Bila Tserkva) remains the largest single attack of the week. Meanwhile, Kaliningrad airport closed its airspace for the first time ever due to a Ukrainian drone threat.
