Russian Drone Strikes SBU Headquarters in Central Kyiv — First Direct Hit of the War, Injuring 12

A Russian drone struck the headquarters of Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) on Volodymyrska Street in central Kyiv, opposite St. Sophia's Cathedral, around 3:30 p.m. local time on September 4 — the first known Russian attack directly on the SBU's central headquarters building in the four-and-a-half-year war. The drone appeared aimed at the office of acting SBU chief Oleksandr Poklad, who was unharmed. At least 12 people were injured, with Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko saying 9 were hospitalized, 2 in serious condition; the strike damaged the building's exterior wall and nearby historic structures at the Sofia Kyivska complex.
