Ukraine's SBU Strikes Second Tu-95MS Bomber at Engels-2 Airbase, Hits Yaroslavl Refinery

| Ukraine War

The Security Service of Ukraine's (SBU) Special Operations Center 'Alpha' struck a Russian Tu-95MS strategic bomber-missile carrier at the Engels-2 airbase in Saratov Oblast, roughly 800km from the Ukrainian border, using long-range attack drones, President Zelensky said on August 28. Satellite imagery reviewed by analysts showed the bomber missing part of a wing and assessed as non-repairable — the second Tu-95 destroyed or critically damaged at Engels-2 in six weeks, following a July 16 strike. In the same 24-hour window, Ukraine's Defense Forces also struck an oil refinery in Russia's Yaroslavl Oblast, about 1,000km from the front line, as part of what Zelensky said was a 16-target overnight campaign against Russian military and energy infrastructure.
