Russia Launches Massive Missile-and-Drone Barrage on Kyiv, Killing at Least 15

| Ukraine War

Russia launched an hours-long overnight barrage of ballistic missiles (including Kinzhal and Banderol), cruise missiles, and jet-powered drones at Kyiv and the surrounding oblast beginning shortly after midnight on August 20, striking 28 locations across the capital. At least 15 people were killed and around 40 injured, according to President Zelensky, with explosions reported in the Solomianskyi, Sviatoshynskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, Desnianskyi, and Dniprovskyi districts. A nine-storey residential building partially collapsed and caught fire in Solomianskyi, and a children's hospital was damaged with windows blown out and vehicles burning on its grounds. Ukraine's Air Force said it intercepted 39 of 44 ballistic missiles launched. Zelensky called it 'a massive attack' combining multiple missile types 'to cause as much damage as possible to civilian infrastructure.'
