Russian MLRS Strike on Kherson Playground Kills Father, Critically Wounds 3-Year-Old Daughter — Day 1,554
On May 27–28, 2026 — Day 1,554 of Russia's full-scale invasion — Russian forces launched an MLRS (multiple-launch rocket system) barrage that struck a children's playground in the Korabelnyi district of Kherson around 5:30 PM local time. A father was killed instantly; his wife and two young daughters — ages 3 and 6 — were all wounded. The 3-year-old was in critical condition with blast injuries and shrapnel wounds to her head, torso, and limbs. The 6-year-old and the mother also sustained injuries. Kherson city, which Ukraine liberated in November 2022, sits on the Dnipro River's west bank; Russian forces control the east bank and have subjected the city to near-daily MLRS, artillery, and drone strikes throughout 2023–2026. The Korabelnyi (Shipbuilding) district has been struck repeatedly as one of the areas closest to Russian firing positions across the river. The attack on a populated playground in broad daylight drew condemnation from Ukrainian officials and international media as an example of deliberate Russian targeting of civilians. The attack was documented by Kyiv Independent, Meduza, and United24 Media.
