USTR Sets April 28 Public Hearing on Section 301 Trade Investigations Against 16 Countries
The Office of the United States Trade Representative announced a public hearing scheduled for April 28, 2026 on Section 301 trade investigations targeting 16 countries, including China, the EU, Japan, India, and Mexico. The investigations were launched after the Supreme Court's February 2026 ruling struck down IEEPA tariff authority; the administration is seeking new legal grounds for reciprocal tariffs before the 10% universal Section 122 surcharge expires on July 24, 2026. The investigations cover structural manufacturing overcapacity and trade practices that the administration says unfairly disadvantage US industries.
