Echeverría Arrested — Genocide Charges for 1971 Halconazo

Former President Luis Echeverría Álvarez (age 84) is placed under house arrest on genocide charges related to the 1971 Corpus Christi (Halconazo) massacre. It is the first time a former Mexican president has been charged with genocide. The charges are directly linked to FEMOSPP's investigation. However, a federal court dismisses the charges in November 2006, ruling the statute of limitations had expired.
