Continuous Gunfire for Up to 90 Minutes
Witnesses and survivors report sustained automatic weapons fire lasting between 30 and 90 minutes. The plaza fills with bodies. Survivors who fled into apartment buildings report soldiers following them inside, beating and arresting anyone found. The army later claims the shooting lasted only minutes and was self-defense against armed provocateurs.
