Hun Manet Marks International Day of Peace With Renewed Call for Thailand to Honour Border Agreements

In a message issued for the UN International Day of Peace (September 21), Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet called on Thailand to respect the agreements the two countries have reached -- including the October 26, 2025 Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration signed with Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and witnessed by US President Donald Trump and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim -- and to work with Cambodia toward a peaceful, international-law-based resolution of the border dispute. Manet said the conflict along the border had cost lives and disrupted the livelihoods of border communities, with thousands of families still unable to return home, and warned that the 'lasting peace' Cambodia has built over 26 years had been threatened by the fighting. He reiterated Cambodia's commitment to sovereignty, non-use of force, reduced tensions, confidence-building and restoring peaceful coexistence along the border, invoking the country's history of war and the Khmer Rouge era as reasons peace remains paramount. Thailand had not issued a corresponding statement as of this update.
