Information Minister Urges Safe Return of 6,066 Displaced Cambodian Children

Following a displacement-site visit in Preah Vihear province by Deputy PM Hang Chuon Naron and the World Food Programme's Cambodia country director, Information Minister Neth Pheaktra said 6,066 Cambodian children and more than 9,000 women remain among those unable to return home. WFP is providing breakfast and temporary education support at the site. Pheaktra said humanitarian assistance 'could ease the suffering of displaced children but could not replace their homes, schools or right to return to a normal life,' warning that 'temporary arrangements should not become permanent,' and repeated that territory 'could not lawfully be acquired by force, nor could barbed wire, barriers or newly constructed infrastructure create a new international boundary.'
