Opposition Vows to Scrutinize Budget, Ties Approval to Cabinet Promulgating Drone Industry Act

Taiwan's KMT/TPP-controlled Legislative Yuan vowed on September 4, 2026 to strictly scrutinize the Cabinet's newly-approved NT$607.63 billion supplementary budget, demanding the Executive Yuan first promulgate the opposition's Act on Strengthening Defense Autonomy and Developing the Unmanned Vehicles Industry — the NT$240 billion, six-year drone law the Legislature passed August 27 — arguing the NT$145.69 billion in drone/missile funding in the new budget must be implemented consistent with that Act's oversight-committee structure. TPP caucus whip Jacky Chen said the supplementary-budget approach 'proves the government lied about the necessity of funding drones with a special budget act,' and separately argued the budget's NT$233.8 billion bailout for CPC Corp violates Article 79 of the Budget Act — which he said restricts supplementary budgets to cases where a major incident causes a state enterprise to exceed its legal budget — noting CPC has been unprofitable for six years without such an incident.
