Cabinet Approves Record NT$607.6B Supplementary Budget, Including NT$145.7B for Previously-Rejected Drone/Missile Procurement
Taiwan's Executive Yuan approved a NT$607.63 billion (US$19.13 billion) supplementary budget on September 3, 2026. NT$421.3 billion targets economic stabilization, including a NT$233.8 billion capital injection for state-run oil refiner CPC Corp to offset losses from LNG infrastructure investment and fuel-price-smoothing controls — Vice Minister of Economic Affairs Lai Chien-hsin said without those controls 'gasoline prices would have risen to NT$45 per liter.' NT$145.7 billion goes to weapons procurement previously blocked when the Legislative Yuan rejected the Cabinet's NT$210 billion special drone budget on August 27: NT$55.9 billion is earmarked for uncrewed systems — over 40,000 coastal-attack drones, 600 coastal-reconnaissance drones and 100 one-way unmanned surface vessels planned for delivery in 2027 — plus NT$7.3 billion for ammunition replenishment and NT$13 billion across seven programs including the domestically-developed Chiang Kung ('Strong Bow') missile system and two classified projects. The package still requires Legislative Yuan approval.
