PLA ADIZ Activity Surges to 20 Sorties, Largest Since Han Kuang 42 Concluded

Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense detected 20 PLA aircraft sorties, 7 PLAN vessels and 6 official ships operating around Taiwan in the 24-hour window ending 06:00 (UTC+8) on August 19, 2026. Fifteen of the 20 sorties crossed the Taiwan Strait median line, entering the northern, central, southwestern and eastern sectors of Taiwan's ADIZ simultaneously — the largest single-day sortie count since the August 13 pre-conclusion spike of 18 (15 crossing) and well above the low-single-digit lulls of August 15-17. The ROC Armed Forces said they monitored the situation and responded with combat air patrol aircraft, naval ships and coastal missile systems.
