Renewed Clashes Between Druze National Guard and Government Forces in Suwayda
Heavy clashes broke out between the Druze-led National Guard and Syrian government forces in the Tal al-Hadid area west of Suwayda city late on July 2, continuing into the morning of July 3, 2026. At least two people were killed and dozens injured. State-run Al-Ikhbariah TV said gunmen attacked government security positions in the area; government forces reinforced their presence over the following days amid sporadic exchanges of fire. The clashes mark the most serious escalation since the ceasefire agreed between Damascus and local Druze leaders in July 2025, following the deadly Suwayda violence of that summer that the SOHR said killed over 1,300 people.
