West Kordofan State's Ministry of Health recorded, as of June 20, 2026, a cumulative outbreak toll of 838 suspected cholera cases, 7 laboratory-confirmed infections, and 117 deaths since the outbreak began weeks earlier. The outbreak — Sudan's third cholera wave in as many years, arriving barely two months after the previous wave was declared over in March — is being driven by the near-total destruction of water and sanitation infrastructure, mass displacement, and the collapse of health services amid the ongoing RSF drone campaign in North Kordofan. Health authorities and UN agencies warned the case fatality rate was unusually high and expected to worsen with the approaching rainy season.
