RSF Drone Campaign Continues Across Sudan; Near-Daily Strikes Hit SAF-Controlled Areas

RSF drone activity continued across multiple theaters on May 7, 2026 as the near-daily campaign of loitering munition strikes against SAF-controlled areas entered its sixth consecutive week without a significant pause. The pattern, which has killed an estimated 700+ civilians in Q1 2026 alone, showed no signs of abating despite Sudan's formal international outcry over the Khartoum airport strikes. Analysts at the Sudan War Monitor and ACLED noted that RSF drones were operating across six theaters simultaneously: the Khartoum-Omdurman corridor, White Nile State (Kosti, Rabak, Kenana), North Kordofan (El Obeid), Blue Nile State (Kurmuk area), Gezira State, and Sennar State — demonstrating a degree of operational coordination and drone inventory that has surprised regional military observers. SAF Air Defence Command had intercepted or downed multiple RSF drones over the Khartoum area in the preceding days, including the May 5 drone over Khartoum Airport, but SAF acknowledged it could not guarantee interception of all incoming munitions given the volume and variety of attack corridors. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) noted in its May update that RSF drone attacks on fuel, water, and medical infrastructure in SAF-held areas were creating second-order humanitarian crises distinct from direct casualties: fuel shortages were beginning to affect hospitals' generator capacity across Khartoum, White Nile, and Sennar states.
